strategic planning

Tonight Economic Development got an opportunity to facilitate the first part of the South Quesnel Business Association (SQBA) 5-year strategic plan. Thank you to all those who attended the meeting and shared their ideas for South Quesnel.

There was great discussion on improvement and revitalization opportunities. The SQBA has a dedicated volunteer board of directors who will be meeting again in a few weeks to work on the next steps of the strategic plan.

They are open to other ideas on ways to improve South Quesnel and if you have any suggestions or comments, please leave a comment/post to this blog post and we will pass them along to the association.

A few of the great discussion points:

- side walk connection from Murphy's to Canadian Tire
- new signage and directional way points to direct people to Hallis Lake and the Motor sports area
- lots of discussion on the benefits of sports and motor sports in the area
- new events/programs for businesses
- re-branding of business improvement area

Relay for Life

Hat's off to the people of Quesnel and all of the friends and families who donated to Relay for Life this past weekend. 490 people participated in Quesnel and raised more than $162,000.

Thank you to everyone that volunteered and spent their time to make such a great event in our community! And a special thanks for Cathy Briggs and her leadership team - great job and keep up the great work!

Partnership

Economic Development has been working with the Quesnel & District Chamber of Commerce over the past few months to enhance the business directory and add some relocation information. The printed version will be available later next week - check out the online version here.

"None of us is as smart as all of us." Ken Blachard, author of The One Minute Manager

Significant synergies can be found through partnership and we are pleased to work with the Chamber and many other community groups in Quesnel and across the province.

Lava Works

We had an exciting day at economic development today as we toured the new owners of Lava Works around Quesnel. Lava Works will be utilizing the lava rock in the Nazko Cone to sell locally, provincially and internationally.

Quesnel has one of the largest commercial volcanic deposit quarry in North America. Learn more about the deposit here.
